Purchases using Pay By Group normally complete within 1-5 days, depending on your market and target audiences. During this time period, it is a much better user experience if the group is notified immediately of any changes to price or availability instead of the user’s finding out the inventory is unavailable only when the purchase is ready to complete.
Ideally, Pay By Group can monitor your system for price and availability changes for the inventory the group is targeting. Pay By Group recommends you provide us access to an API through which we can monitor for current price and availability. Pay By Group will build an adapter that checks your system for updated information at regular intervals and when certain events occur, such as a new member joining the group. The data necessary for us to pull accurate price and availability for the desired inventory via this API must have been passed during the Group Creation step.
If a group is in progress and the price changes, the purchase should be updated to reflect those changes as quickly as possible. See Modifying a Purchase for options on how to handle those changes. If Pay By Group is using your API to monitor for price and availability changes, we will use the information returned to modify the group based on the merchant’s API.
The earlier the group is made aware of inventory unavailability, the more likely they are to choose alternate inventory from you and convert to a completed order. If your API allows Pay By Group to identify similar inventory, we will surface that and recommend it to the group organizer so they can request to modify the in-progress purchase to apply to the alternate inventory.
